Playing with light

Playing with Light
We've been trying many ways to play with light. We started when D was quite young, and it's helped expand his vocabulary, create an interest in color recognition at an early age, and made old toys seem new again. We love it so much that daddy is (taking his time) converting one of D's train tables into a light table.

8 months:
Yellow blocks on home-made light box.

A box of stars, made by daddy (9 months)

Tunnel to the stars.

At 20 months, we have a few more light boxes in storage containers. They are nice for the three kids to play together, plus they are very light, so we can drag them all over the house. I found ways to make these on Pinterest using strings of lights and storage containers.

I have a very old camera that takes the worst pictures. Below the kids are playing with waterbeads.

Waterbeads with submergeable lights.
MUST put feet in the waterbeads.
D and I love these lights for bathtime. They create a very cool light show on the ceiling!
Sand and natural elements on the light table.
More sand play on light table.

1/4/13: This weekend I bought an overhead projector. An awesome Craigslist find, for only $25.00! Today, we finally got to play with it!

It's balloon week, so of course, the first thing they tried was....the orange balloon. Kind of cool.

Now that they've been introduced, we'll begin some letter learning activities, etc. with this new machine. Which, by the way, I think will need a name. lol
