Weather Week: Day 1

Weather Week

I am excited to be doing theme weeks again. I-Bell has been expressing interest in different things and we've been playing off of them. It's a great opportunity to teach and for her to learn. Last week we did planets after seeing a picture of Earth and her asking what lives there.

Today marked the beginning to Weather Week. This idea stemmed from I-Bell asking about tornadoes last week. She said she wanted to see a tornado like on the Wizard Of Oz, so we went home and watched some Nat Geo Storm Chaser Clips on You Tube:).

It was raining after we dropped S off at school this morning, so when we came home, we did our rain experiment.
A canister of water, a turkey baster (since I don't have eye droppers yet), a container of water, shaving cream and bath salts.
Coloring the water with food coloring.
Stir.
Shake the shaving cream!
Make your clouds!
Drop the food coloring onto the clouds.
Talk about how clouds fill up with water, turn dark and then when they cannot hold any more water ...
It starts raining!
This was quite the heavy rain storm!
We didn't need the turkey baster as the food coloring dropper worked just fine on it's own.
I-Bell wanted to use the bath salts, so we talked about how hail forms.
She seemed to enjoy adding "hail" to her storm.
Then she wanted to make a tornado!
We decided to make a tornado in a jar...
However, I'm going to try this one again with another container.
It worked, but didn't look as great as I had hoped.
But I just love these pictures!!!!
