A Look Into Outer Space

The Start To Our Outer Space Week

We opened our book to the page about stars. We talked about how you can take a closer look at stars by using a telescope. I got two paper towel rolls out, covered them in paper on one end (black paper is best, but we were out) and let the girls poke holes in it.

Making their stars.

Taking a peek.
Then going to the window to take a look at the bright sky.
Although there were no stars out, we pretended it was night time and we were studying them.
Here is a look inside:
Then we began to create our own galaxy, starting with the stars.
Splattering white paint onto black foam paper.
Still taking a look at our star page.
Then beginning with the sun.
What a face!

The sun is the largest star!
The planets orbit the sun.
I-Bell left after painting the sun; S wanted to paint the entire solar system!
Here she is gluing all of her planets around her sun.

S would look at each planet in the book, and then let me know what colors she needed to paint them with. She did all of these on her own, including all of the gluing and placement of each planet. The only thing I did to help her was open her paints and read to her about each planet. This was a lot of fun!
