Dollar Store Play Dough

 

Today we tried play dough from the Dollar Tree. I was quite happy with it!

D asked for a ball and then stuck a popsicle stick into it. He pretended to lick it and said, "Mmmmm." He kept looking at me with this sneaky little face like he was just waiting for me to look away so he could really give it a taste.

This was after coloring, so there is purple marker on his lips and face.

I had to make a color sorting game. 

D did such an awesome job. I hoped he would do it again so I could record it. 

And he was so talkative.

After I turned the camera off, he said, "I'm done." and he wanted to go play. Finally, I got something on video!

This was a fabulous, and inexpensive idea inspired by PAHM.
 

I set out some frames from the Dollar Tree, some assorted gems, and acrylic paint.

Here are two additional frames for the girls with clear Elmer's Glue for the gems.

This did not take too long!

And when they were done they wanted to do more and more and more!

It's a good thing we had the painting project up next.

So proud!

Here is D painting (22 months). He kept saying, "Look! Look Mama!"

Before we sat down, he said, "Choo choo watch." And arranged them on the table so they could see.

Here he is taking "Henry" and saying, "Henry, Look!"

Random ... He had to bring all three of these trains to bed with him last night.

The girls took their time painting!

S was painting a horse.

A lot of my pictures turned out very blury:(

D took a break and then wanted to paint again.

Left hand, and then right hand. Hmmm ....

We let them dry, and then I glued suction cups on the back. We hung them up in the girl's playroom. 

I love them all!

My little D's artwork is hanging in our kitchen window.

It's so funny how as a mom you think everything is so beautiful when it's made by your own child.

We bought a gutter!

We bought a gutter!

 

Josh doesn't seem too surprised anymore when I put random things in our shopping cart. We went to Fleet Farm the other day to buy legs for our table that we were building, and we ended up leaving with this plastic gutter, some extremely large nuts and bolts and some clear plastic tubing from the plumbing section. 

 

I'll explain the gutter, and note I have so many plans for us with this thing. Already it has been a huge hit with the kids just letting them explore it on their own.

 

I love seeing what they come up with. Like using it as a tunnel for the battery-operated trains!

I never would have thought to use it this way!

I usually dislike these battery operated trains because they require no help from the kids when they are on the track. Meaning, the kids can just sit and stare at them, and they don't use much of their imagination or bodies during play.

However, this was a creative and new use for them!

They have also been busy putting the trains down the gutter.

Or up the gutter.. 

The other day they were sending plastic animals down.  

Or racing two trains! 

 

We found two Toby's at our house. Someone is stealing them from "Choo Choo Grandma's" house. We now have about 4 trains to return.
