Indoor snow play

Indoor Snow Play

The inspiration for bringing snow inside came from my son. Whenever we go outside, he always wants to take his mittens off and touch the snow, resulting in cold fingers and tears. It isn't fair that he's not able to feel the snow in his hands and really learn what this stuff is all about.

I brought a large storage container outside, filled it with snow and added some ice cubes frozen with blue and green food coloring. We also had towels and mittens nearby for warming up little hands.

Blue and green ice cubes in snow.

This ice cube had some little bears frozen inside.

A snowball!

It's impossible to keep your hands out of the snow when you're inside:)

A little baker in the making. She baked a cake, and put her oven mits on to take it out. She was even blowing on it (to cool it off?). Love the imagination!

This activity was great! Especially because it was quite windy and cold outside today. The kids played for a good hour, if not more. Half way through, I had to change my 21 month old into dry clothes. We decided to put his snow boots on too as his little socks were all wet.
