This week we began talking about plants and flowers. To introduce plant growth, we took a look at some beans.
The kids have been playing with these in our sensory table in our playroom. I grabbed some and brought them up for them to look at.
We talked about what plants need to grow.
We got our paper towel wet, added a bean and put them into a plastic bag. Since plants need water and sun to grow, we taped them up in a window that gets lots of sun. We've been watching them all week!
Then we decided to plant some beans in soil.
Everyone got to plant their own.
They've been wanting to just play in the dirt.
We also sprinkled some wild flower seed in the back yard.
I bought tulip from the dollar store ....
And set them next to a bin of potting soil with planting tools and buckets.
The girls did their own thing, and D did his.
A very busy, pretty girl.
Look at that beautiful flower pot!
I-Bell working on hers..
So happy!
Then we found a bumble bee!
We talked about how they like flowers because they eat nectar, and the girls let me know they gather pollen!
Can you tell what D was up to?
Here is an update on our bean plants:
D's didn't do much....
I-Bell's grew a bit!
And S's was really grew!
The kids loved this...they would check their plants every day:)
Only one of our planted plants grew, but that's OK. It gave them a different look at these plants in soil, and the window plants gave us the opportunity to talk about the parts of the plant (leaf, stem roots).
We also did this! First, we cut up some pool noodles from the dollar store.
Then D got a better look at them, or through them...
We added some paint, and a big roll of paper....
And they took it from there.
Flower stamping!!
:)
Finger painting!!!!!!!!
YIKES!
They are the best!
We found another use for these noodles....
S helped me poke holes in them, and we added straws....
The girls made another flower garden.
They turned out pretty neat.
Lucille liked them too!
What a fun week!!
